Dato' Mohd. Arshad M. Hussain, Ambassador of Malaysia to Austria and Slovakia and Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations, Vienna hosted a reception on the occasion of the 52nd anniversary of Malaysia's National Day on 3 September 2009 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Bratislava, Slovak Republic. This was the first time Malaysia's National Day reception was held in Bratislava, Slovak Republic since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1993. | |||||||||||||||||
Although it was the first time the reception was held in Bratislava, about 150 guests including Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives from several embassies based in Vienna, Honorary Consuls of several countries based in Bratislava, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Economy Slovak Republic, members of the Slovak Chamber of Commerce and representatives of the private sector attended the event. | |||||||||||||||||

At the same time, the Embassy also invited several delegations from Malaysia which happened to be in Slovakia during that time. This included the Under-19 Malaysian Football Team who were training in Nitra, Slovakia, as well as Y.B. Datuk Haji Abdul Latiff Ahmad, Deputy Minister of Defence and his entourage who were also in Bratislava on a semi-official visit. Malaysians who are living and working in Austria and Slovakia were also invited. Local and home-based staff of the Embassy also joined in on the celebration. | |||||||||||||||||

The event started with the playing of Negaraku, followed by a short welcoming speech by Dato' Mohd. Arshad M. Hussain. In his speech, Dato' Mohd. Arshad apprised guests on the state of bilateral relations between Malaysia and the Slovak Republic. It was also emphasized that Malaysia continued to remain stable, peaceful and harmonious, especially under the new Prime Mnister Dato' Sri Najib Tun Razak's new concept of 1Malaysia. Mr. Igor Junas, the Honorary Consul of Malaysia in the Slovak Republic who assisted the Embassy in arranging the event in Bratislava also acted as interpreter for Dato' Mohd. Guests were treated to a sumptous feast of Malaysian dishes which included among others, rice, steamed fish, tandoori chicken, roti canai, noodles and savoury pastries. For dessert, an assortment of Malaysian kuih-muih such as kuih bingka, kek lapis and karipap was served. Selections of instrumental traditional songs and tourism video clips were also played throughout the event. | |||||||||||||||||
