H.E. Haznah Md Hashim, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Bangladesh had a meeting with Mr. Johannes van der Klaauw, the UNHCR Representative in Bangladesh on 18 May 2022. As Mr. Klaauw leads UNHCR's response for the Rohingyas in Bangladesh, H.E High Commissioner took the opportunity to reaffirm the Malaysian Government continuous commitment and solidarity with the Government of Bangladesh in handling the Rohingya issues.
In this regard, H.E. Commissioner recalled that the Malaysian Field Hospital was the first field hospital ever established in Cox’s Bazar and has been in operation since the early days of the Rohingya crisis to provide immediate Level 3 healthcare response to the Rohingyas. Since its inception in NOVEMBER 2017, the Malaysian Government sent the best surgeons, doctors, dentist and highly experienced medical team to Cox’s Bazar.
Despite the conclusion of the operation of Level 3 Malaysian Field Hospital, it will remain in history of humanity as the first field hospital ever established in Cox’s Bazar. Moreover, Malaysian flag continues to remain in Cox’s Bazar through the handing over to the Government of Bangladesh on 14 March 2021, of this whole complex of Malaysian Field Hospital and its infrastructure as well as relevant Level-1 medical equipment, which were estimated to be more than USD2 million in term of its original aquisation value by the Government of Malaysia over the years.
Most important above all, this sincere gesture by the Government of Malaysia signifies its continuous and undivided commitment and solidarity with the Government of Bangladesh in handling the Rohingya issues. It also reflects the long standing and close bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries. It is therefore the hope of the Malaysian Government that its assistance in the form of the handing over of this complex, its infrastructure and relevant Level 1 medical equipment would be able to continue to be utilised in the humanitarian efforts for the Rohingyas.

In her speech, H.E. High Commissioner also expressed hope that not only Malaysian doctors, but also Malaysian people, will continue to be cited in the daily prayers and dua’ of the respective Imams in the Kutupalong Camp.
H.E. High Commissioner ended her speech by stating on behalf of her Government that the recent initiative by Bangladesh to gradually move the Rohingya refugees from Cox’s Bazar to Bashan Char aimed at ensuring their security, safety and welfare is commendable.
