The International University of Sarajevo (IUS) conferred a “Lifetime Achievement Award” to YABhg. Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, former Prime Minister of Malaysia, on 17 May 2013.
The award was presented by IUS Rector, Prof. Dr. Ozer Cinar at a ceremony held at its campus in Sarajevo. It was in recognition of the former Prime Minister’s contributions to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and for being a role model for the young.
Present at the ceremony were YABhg. Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, Dr. Haris Silajdzic, former President of BiH, Mr. Suad Zeljkovic, Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton, H.E. Anuar Kasman, Malaysian Ambassador to BiH, foreign diplomats, academics and students.
YABhg. Tun Dr. Mahathir later gave a brief address about the role of education in nation building. He also stressed the importance of the English language in acquiring knowledge and expertise, particularly in the field of science and technology.
Later at the same function, the Alumni of the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) presented to the former Prime Minister a “Lifetime Leadership Award”. This was followed by a presentation of an “Appreciation Plaque” by the Novi Grad Municipality of Sarajevo to YABhg. Tun Dr. Mahathir in recognition of Malaysia’s assistance to the locality.
At the same event, Mr. Suad Zeljkovic, Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton presented to YABhg. Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah an “Appreciation Certificate” for her contributions to the people of BiH.
