On 13 August 2025, High Commissioner of Malaysia HE Datuk Mohd Aini Atan attended the 2nd Borneo Fencing Cup 2025 which is currently taking place from 11 until 17 August at the Indoor Stadium, Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex. The tournament gathers fencing athletes from all over Borneo involving Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia, with majority of the athletes from Malaysia hailed from Sarawak.
The competition officially began with the symbolic presentation of the Championship Trophy from the representative of the West Kalimantan Team of Indonesia, the champion of the First Borneo Fencing Cup, to the current Chair of tournament, Brunei Darussalam. Concluding the third day’s event, HE Datuk Mohd Aini presented medals to the winners.
HE Datuk Mohd Aini underscored that the fencing tournament provides exposure and competitive experience to fencing athletes from Borneo which would in turn elevate the standard of the sports in the region.
HE Datuk Mohd Aini further expressed the High Commission of Malaysia’s full support towards the convening of sporting events in Borneo which not only serves to promote sporting excellence, but would also strengthen people-to-people exchanges among Bruneians, Indonesians and Malaysians in the region.
