On 15 April 2026, the High Commissioner of Malaysia HE Datuk Mohd Aini Atan received a courtesy call from a delegation of Malaysian senior lecturers and researchers at the former’s office. The delegation was led by Dr Nur Hidayah from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UNIMAP), and comprised of representatives from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UITM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Politeknik Ungku Omar.

During the call, the visiting delegation apprised HE Datuk Mohd Aini of their respective joint research project with Bruneian universities, particularly in the field of renewable energy, with focus on hydrogen technology and clean energy innovation. Discussion also touched on the need of harnessing alternative form of renewable energy in light of the current geopolitical uncertainties that have disrupted global oil and gas supply chains.

HE Datuk Mohd Aini underscored the importance of hydrogen which stands as one of the six energy transition levers that will spearhead Malaysia’s efforts to become a net-zero nation by 2050.

HE Datuk Mohd Aini further expressed the High Commission’s full support for the ongoing strategic research collaboration on hydrogen, and encouraged respective senior lecturers and researchers to explore the possibility of formalising the collaborative efforts through a signing of bilateral instrument, which would in turn further solidify cooperation in the renewable energy sector between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam.
