On 2 May 2024, the High Commission of Malaysia in Bandar Seri Begawan hosted a Friendly Futsal Match in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam at the High Commission’s futsal court.
The futsal match saw the participation of three teams competing against each other namely from the High Commission of Malaysia (HCM); Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA); and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS). Besides Raja Dato’ Reza bin Raja Zaib Shah High Commissioner of Malaysia, other senior government officers who participated in the match were Haji Muhamad Fakhri bin Haji Mohd Taib, Permanent Secretary of MFA; Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Permanent Secretary (Sports) and Pengiran Haji Mohd Hasnan bin Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan, Permanent Secretary (Culture) of MCYS. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Nazmi bin Haji Awang Mohamad, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports was also present to watch the friendly futsal match.
The team from MCYS emerged victorious with the team from MFA and from HCM at second and third places respectively. The futsal match is part of the High Commission’s sports diplomacy to engage with Bruneian government through sports and to foster closer relations with the officials from Bruneian government.
