On 6 September 2025, the High Commission of Malaysia in Bandar Seri Begawan hosted a reception on the occasion of the 68th National Day of Malaysia at the Royal Berkshire Hall, Tarindak D’Polo Jerudong.
The event welcomed over 250 guests, comprising of dignitaries, members of the diplomatic corps, members of the Legislative Council, senior government officials, academia, prominent business leaders, as well as representatives from the Malaysian community. The guest of honour (GoH) of the event was the Honourable Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin, Minister of Religious Affairs, representing the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam together with spouse.
The reception commenced with the singing of national anthems of Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia, followed by welcoming remarks from the High Commissioner of Malaysia HE Datuk Mohd Aini Atan. In his speech, HE Datuk Mohd Aini lauded the historical deep bond of friendship between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam, and expressed confidence that the shared history and trust will guide both countries towards greater peace, prosperity and harmony in the years to come.
The High Commissioner also underlined notable achievements in various cooperation between the two nations, including in the facets of economy, defence, tourism, education and health. On ASEAN, HE Datuk Mohd Aini reaffirmed Malaysia’s steadfast commitment as the Chair of ASEAN to bring the regional bloc closer to the people and steer the region towards a more inclusive and sustainable future.
The event proceeded with a presentation of mementos to the GoH and spouse before the symbolic cake cutting ceremony. To showcase Malaysia’s cultural elements, the guests were also entertained with live performance of Kulintangan and Silat demonstration, while indulging an array of Malaysia’s signature traditional cuisines.
