On 26 October 2025, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Temburong District Office and Diplomatic Missions of ASEAN Member States, organised the ASEAN Sports Day 2025 at the Temburong Sports Complex. The event was graced by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, YB Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Nazmi, as the Guest of Honour.
Held under the theme “Sports, Heritage and Unity,” the event featured various sporting and traditional activities including walkathon, six-a-side football, netball, tug of war, and traditional games. The High Commission of Malaysia showcased the traditional Malaysian game ‘congkak’ as part of its cultural diplomacy efforts to promote Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage.
The event commenced with a 1.2 km walkathon led by the Guest of Honour. Participants that took part in the event comprised of members of the ASEAN diplomatic corps, ASEAN citizens residing in Brunei, and local communities from Temburong District.
The High Commissioner of Malaysia HE Datuk Mohd Aini Atan reaffirmed the High Commission of Malaysia’s continued support for such initiatives, acknowledging that ASEAN Sports Day serves as an excellent platform to foster understanding and friendship among the communities in ASEAN.
The Malaysian High Commission has also been strongly supportive towards efforts in raising awareness of ASEAN through sports and people-to-people activities, recognising sports as one of the strategic priorities for Malaysia under its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025.
