The Malaysian High Commission hosted a cooking demonstration at the residence of the Malaysian High Commissioner at Jalan Kebangsaan yesterday.
The event, which was organized in collaboration with the Malaysian High Commission Ladies Association (PERWAKILAN) and the International Women’s Club Bru nei (IWCB), brought members and guests together to learn to make and prepare three popular Malaysian delicacies, namely Laksa Johor, a cold dessert called Lompat Tikam and the ever-popular Teh tarik.
During the event, the women also had the opportunity to view a short video presentation by Tourism Malaysia on the places of interest in Malaysia, presented by Jamilah Abdul Halim, Director of Tourism Malaysia in Brunei.
“We have previously attended an Indonesian cooking demonstration as well as other cooking demonstrations from other embassies,” the IWCB Head of Activities, Ayesha Mawaz Khan said, adding that the main purpose of the demonstrations is to gather recipes for publication in an upcoming cookery book.
“The cookery book that we are publishing will not only feature recipes but also the culture and tradition of the dishes. It will concentrate on Asian dishes,” she added. “We are hoping to launch the book in December.”

Present at yesterday’s event were the wife of the Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, Datin Zakiah Dato’ Haji Aliah, who is also the Chairperson of Perwakilan, and Ungku Datin Fanza Othman, President of IWCB.
