On 23 July 2025, the High Commissioner of Malaysia HE Datuk Mohd Aini Atan paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Development of Brunei YB Dato Seri Setia Haji Muhammad Juanda Haji Abdul Rashid at the latter’s office.
Both sides exchanged views on the outcome of the recently concluded 26th Meeting of the Sub-Regional Ministerial Steering Committee on Transboundary Haze Pollution which was successfully hosted by Brunei, as well as the preparations for the upcoming 18th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on the Environment (AMME) which Malaysia is scheduled to host from 1 to 5 September 2025 in Langkawi.
Discussion also revolved on subjects of urban planning; national housing project; and waste to energy initiatives. On urban planning, HE Datuk Mohd Aini apprised the Minister of the current development of Kenyalang Smart City, an integrated smart city project in Miri which is strategically located near the Brunei – Miri border. The High Commissioner of Malaysia encouraged Brunei’s participation in the KSC project, highlighting its potential socio-economic gains for the peoples of both countries.
HE Datuk Mohd Aini reaffirmed the commitment of the High Commission of Malaysia to continue working closely with the Ministry of Development in advancing bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam.
