On 23 October 2025, High Commissioner of Malaysia HE Datuk Mohd Aini Atan paid a courtesy call on the State Secretary of Sabah, YB Datuk Seri Panglima Sr Haji Safar bin Untong at the latter’s office.
During the call, HE Datuk Mohd Aini apprised the State Secretary regarding the overall state of bilateral relations between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam, with particular focus on collaboration involving East Malaysia. Both sides also discussed matters related to potential joint economic activities between Brunei and Sabah, especially through commercial paddy cultivation and livestock integration, which would improve supply chain resilience and expand market access for the Borneo region.
With respect to tourism sector, HE Datuk Mohd Aini underscored the signing of Memorandum of Collaboration between Royal Brunei Airlines and Sabah Tourism Board in June 2025 as a positive development towards enhancing international connectivity within Borneo, and aligns well in the lead up to Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
HE Datuk Mohd Aini conveyed the commitment of High Commission of Malaysia to continue working closely with the State Government of Sabah in fostering broader economic collaboration with Brunei Darussalam, with a view to promote shared prosperity and deeper regional integration.
