On 12 February 2026, the High Commissioner of Malaysia, HE Datuk Mohd Aini Atan, received a joint courtesy call from delegations of the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) Sarawak and the BIMP-EAGA Business Council (BEBC) Sarawak at the former’s office.
The delegations were led by Mrs Nurhafizah Junaidi, Deputy Director (Control) of JIM Sarawak, and Mr Nobel Pang, Chair of BEBC Sarawak. The delegations were in Brunei Darussalam representing Malaysia at the BIMP-EAGA Strategic Planning Meeting, held from 9 to 12 February 2026.
During the call, HE Datuk Mohd Aini was briefed on the latest developments and forthcoming initiatives under the BIMP-EAGA framework. Discussions revolved on proposals for the establishment of a BEC Connect Card; the integration of e-wallet systems to facilitate seamless cross-border transactions; and the development of a Sungai Tujoh consolidation hub aimed at enhancing trade and logistics efficiency within the sub-region.
HE Datuk Mohd Aini highlighted that BIMP-EAGA continues to possess vast untapped potential. The High Commissioner underscored that strengthened connectivity and greater ease of cross-border travel would serve as key enablers in translating regional cooperation into tangible socio-economic benefits for communities across the sub-region.
HE Datuk Mohd Aini further emphasised that BIMP-EAGA remains a strategic platform not only for deepening economic linkages between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam, but also for leveraging access to the wider BIMP-EAGA market, which encompasses a combined population of approximately 81.7 million people.
