ENVOYS IN BRUNEI GET TO KNOW BORNEO

Heads of foreign missions in Brunei Darussalam visited Sarawak and Sabah to get to know the two states better, as being neighbours to the Sultanate, where they are based.

Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei, Datuk Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari said the two-day visit to Miri from April 12 was arranged by the Tourism Malaysian office in the Sultanate.

"This is our first visit to widen our general knowledge of Borneo and its people. There are 24 foreign embassies in Brunei and they've shown their interests to visit Sarawak, especially Miri and surrounding areas, as well as to Sabah state. The visit has provided them with knowledge and experience beside an effort to foster closer ties between the Brunei and Malaysian governments," he said in Miri

Among the visiting diplomats were Singapore High Commissioner Joseph K H Koh, High Commissioner of Cambodia H.E Mr. Nan Sy, Ambassador of Royal Thai Embassy Phithak Phrombubpha, Ambassador of the Lao Somdy Bounkhom and High Commissioner of Pakistan Major General (Rtd) Syed Haider Jawed.

Assistant Minister of Sarawak Infrastructure Development & Communication Lee Kim Shin said future visits to Sarawak would foster better rapport between the foreign diplomats and the Malaysian government.
