In collaboration with Tourism Malaysia's Office in Brunei, the High Commission of Malaysia in Bandar Seri Begawan organised a Familiarisation Visit for Diplomatic Corps in Brunei to Miri, Sarawak, from 5 to 6 November 2022. The visit aimed to introduce one of Malaysia's most popular tourist destinations, was participated by 28 members of the diplomatic corps in Brunei, including Heads of Mission/Chargé d'affaires and their spouses led by H.E Dato' Raja Reza.
The visit began with an engagement session with Miri City Council (MCC). On arrival at the MCC's building, the participants were warmly welcomed by YB Adam Yii Siew Sang, Mayor of Miri City, along with MCC's councillors, Heads of Department and staff of MCC. Following the welcoming remarks by the Mayor and the Malaysian High Commissioner and a briefing on Miri, the participants proceeded to the City Hall rooftop for lunch hosted by MCC. They were served with Sarawak's signature cuisine while enjoying the scenic view of Miri. The participants later continued with a city tour with the objective to provide them with a snapshot of Miri's main economic activities and tourist attractions namely Miri Handicraft Centre, Canada Hill, Sarawak Petroleum Museum and Bintang Megamall.
Meanwhile, a welcoming dinner hosted by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) was held at Pullman Hotel on 5 November. The Guest of Honour was YB Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Deputy Minister of MTCP. Among other dignitaries present were the Transport Minister of Sarawak, Permanent Secretary of MTCP, Mayor of Miri City and the Director of Tourism Malaysia for Sarawak. During the dinner, the participants were entertained by a performance from Sarawak Arts Council, portraying Sarawak's cultural diversity.
On the second day of the visit, the participants were brought to Niah National Park, one of the highlights of Sarawak. After a welcoming ceremony by the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) and a safety briefing, the participants spent about three hours exploring the forest, the wildlife and the huge caves, as well as its seamless historical and cultural relevance since the middle Palaeolithic. The tour ended with a lunch hosted by SFC.
