Flag-Raising Ceremony at Malaysian High Commission

Kuala Lumpur - In conjunction with Malaysia's grand 50th Merdeka celebration, a flag-raising ceremony was held yesterday at the Malaysia High Commission with many patriotic Malaysians in the country, comprising family members and children, in attendance to commemorate the historical event.
Also present were Malaysia High Commissioner, Dato' Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari and spouse, Datin Zakiah Dato' Hj Alias. The event began with the raising of Malaysia's national flag, followed by the singing of Malaysia's national anthem, "Negara Ku". The Malaysia High Commissioner and other guests also sang the patriotic songs, "Keranamu Malaysia" and "Jalur Gemilang".
In his speech, Dato' Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari said, "Today, our country and all of Malaysia's representatives everywhere else in the world are celebrating this grand event and we are proud to be a citizens of Malaysia as our country becomes more developed and flourished."
"All Malaysian citizens in Brunei and other parts of the world can also contribute their strength and effort to increase the prestige and good name of Malaysia in aspiring towards Wawasan 2020."
He reminded all Malaysian citizens in Brunei Darussalam to work hard and be exemplary as one thriving, respectable and influential community. He further advised Malaysians to keep close ties with their local counterparts and continue respecting customs, traditions and laws of the nation.
He added that this year the Malaysia High Commission together with associations like Persatuan Warganegara Malaysia and Persatuan Kebajikan Melayu Se-Malaysia Di-Brunei are planning various activities including a sports festival to enhance the good ties between the people of Malaysia and Brunei.
Yesterday's event also saw the presentation of certificates by the High Commissioner to three Malaysians - Chan Chung Sun (continuing on to Maktab Duli) from Chung Hwa Middle School, ISB's Muhd Raushan Mohd Yuzer and Farah Mat Husin of JIS - who have all achieved academic excellence in their GCE `O' Level examinations. They also each received a bank-sponsored $200 savings account.
