Her Majesty grants audience
Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha yesterday consented to receive in audience Tengku Datin Seri Marsilla Tengku Abdullah, spouse of Malaysian Education Minister Dato' Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein who is here on a two-day official working visit, at the Istana Nurul Iman.

Malaysian minister briefed on SPN21

Bandar Seri Begawan, January 21, 2009, Wed - MALAYSIA'S Minister of Education Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Education, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Hj Abdul Rahman Dato Setia Hj Mohamed Taib, at the new Ministry of Education headquarters yesterday.
The minister was on hand to welcome Datuk Seri Hishammuddin, who arrived in the Sultanate on Monday for an official two-day working visit. During the meeting, the Malaysian Education Minister together with his seven-party delegation were brought up to speed with the newly implemented National Education System for the 21st Century (SPN21) for Brunei Darussalam by the Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) Hj Mohd Daud Hj Mahmud.
Both counterparts also took the opportunity to discuss bilateral matters and cooperation with regards to education and training, especially in the areas of collaboration based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which was signed on February 14, 1992.
Datuk Seri Hishammuddin is currently the President of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (Seameo) Council where one of his core responsibilities is to visit all Seameo member countries, including Brunei, as part of his duty as the council president.
The Malaysian minister will be visiting Seameo-Voctech today where he will be taking a closer look at the Seameo Regional Centre for Vocational and Technical Education in Gadong as part of the main visit.
Gaining information on the centre's mandate on strengthening as well as improving the quality of vocational and technical education and training through human resource development in Southeast Asian countries will also be looked into whilst the Malaysian Education Minister is in the country.
Datuk Seri Hishammuddin is expected to end his term as Seameo Council President in March this year.
Also in attendance at the work-meet was High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Dato' Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari, Under-Secretary of Policy and International Relations Division from the Malaysian Ministry of Education, Brunei's Acting Permanent Secretary (Core Education), Hj Suhaila Hj Abdul Karim and other senior officials from both ministries.
After the meeting, the Malaysian delegation was treated to a luncheon at the Malaysia House, which was hosted by the Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei. The Brunei Times
