On 7 December 2025, the High Commission of Malaysia organised an Invitational Futsal Tournament in conjunction with the 9th Brunei December Festival at its Chancery. Aside from celebrating the spirit of festivities of Brunei December Festival, the primary objective the programme is to foster closer working relations with Brunei government officials.
The tournament featured six participating teams, namely the High Commission of Malaysia, Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Finance and Economy, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism and Ministry of Health. The team from Ministry of Religious Affairs emerged as champion, followed by Ministry of Finance and Economy in second place, while High Commission of Malaysia secured the third place.
The High Commissioner of Malaysia HE Datuk Mohd Aini Atan, who also participated and played for the Malaysian High Commission team, expressed deep appreciation to all ministries and government officials involved for honouring the invitation and participating in the tournament.
HE Datuk Mohd Aini further underlined that the sporting event is a part of the High Commission of Malaysia’s proactive sports diplomacy efforts, aimed at strengthening friendship between officials from Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam through shared passion for physical pursuits.
