KLD Tunas Samudera docks for goodwill visit to Brunei

Saturday, July 25, 2009 - MALAYSIA Royal Navy vessel, KLD Tunas Samudera has laid anchored at Muara Port for a goodwill visit before heading to Sulawesi, Indonesia to participate in the International Fleet Review 2009.

Last night, a dinner reception was held by the crew members of the vessel for senior officials from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF).

Among the guests were RBAF Commander Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General Dato Paduka Seri Hj Halbi Hj Md Yussof and Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy, Colonel Hj Abd Halim Hj Mohd Hanafiah. Also present was Malaysian High-Commissioner to the Sultanate, Dato' Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari.

The KLD Tunas Samudera is twenty years old and has become the only sailing ship owned by the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN). The sailing ship is used to teach youth and members of the RMN about sea navigation, which will also improve leadership and cooperation. The ship with its 40 member crew is headed by the Commanding Officer, Lt Cdr Mohd Zaidi.

During the reception, souvenirs were presented to the RBAF Commander as the guest of honour, as well as awards to three members of the ship.

The commander was also given a brief tour of the ship as well as a video presentation of the ship's experiences at sea. In his remarks the vessel's commanding officer said how their presence has created closer ties between Brunei and Malaysia and called for continuous cooperation in the future.
