MALAYSIA ASSOCIATION EXPRESSES SOLIDARITY WITH PALESTINIANS
Support for Palestinians: The High Commissioner of Malaysia in Brunei, Dato' Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari, delivering a speech during a prayer ceremony at the Malaysia High Commission yesterday for the victims of Israeli atrocities in the Gaza Strip
Bandar Seri Begawan, Saturday, January 10, 2009 - IN LIGHT of the humanitarian crisis triggered in the Gaza Strip following brutal and inhuman Israeli aggression, Malaysia's Malay Welfare Association or Persatuan Kebajikan Melayu SeMalaysia (PKMS) in Brunei under the Malaysian High Commission, held a religious ceremony and donation drive at its headquarters yesterday to express their solidarity with the Palestinians and bring succour to victims of Israeli atrocities.
Some 50 Malaysian diplomats and members of PKMS along with their families attended the religious ceremony which began with Maghrib prayers followed by a Solat Hajat for the people of Gaza.
The ceremony proceeded with the recital of Surah Yassin and tahlil. The congregation also performed Isyak prayers led by Ustaz Hj Mohammad Hj Yusof.
Present at the ceremony was Dato' Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari, the High Commissioner of Malaysia in Brunei, who gave a brief speech regarding the conflict after the prayers.
He urged for all the Muslim countries to unite against Israel.
He said the violation of human rights of Palestinians by Israel can only be fought through united action by the Muslims all over the world. Only through unity proper action can be taken for the enforcement and implementation of justice.
"So long as the Muslim Ummah is not united, and our leaders fail to see eye to eye, crimes like these are going to keep happening and our nations will remain weak and powerless to do anything about it," he said.
He added that Malaysia also views the recent Israeli aggression in Gaza as an act of war against an Islamic country.
"Malaysia holds a clear position which is that it strongly condemns the action taken by the Israeli authority that launched several air strikes in the Palestinian territory of Khan Younis, South Gaza which began in December 27 of last year."
He said that Malaysia sees this action as a war crime and a crime against humanity whereby this act of savagery has disrupted efforts for peace that has long been initiated to resolve the conflict and ensure continued peace in Palestine.
"Malaysia believes that the road to ever lasting peace can only be achieved through a negotiation and we welcome a definitive agreement that is both fair and comprehensive that has potential to enable Israel and Palestine to co-exist side by side in harmony with borders that are recognised by a contract of peace and follow the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution."
The high commissioner also raised the fact that the Malaysia Government has pledged to donate US$1million for the people of the Gaza Strip and the donation collected during the ceremony will be added to that pledge. (AFH)
