Relations between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam are "at an all-time high" said Dato' Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam, at a reception to mark the 53rd National Day of Malaysia yesterday.
It was held at the Rizqun International Hotel. The guest of honour was Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, Minister of Home Affairs.
"Relations between the top leadership are excellent. In fact, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has just arrived in Malaysia for the 14th Malaysia-Brunei Darussalam Annual Leaders Consultation that would take place in Putrajaya tomorrow (today).
"The exchange of visits between leaders of both countries since the past years has been very encouraging," said the envoy in his speech.
"The good feeling as a result of the settlement of border issues between Malaysia and Brunei has opened the way for closer cooperation that mutually benefits our two countries. Discussions for joint ventures in many fields including in Sabah, Sarawak and Iskandar Malaysia are in progress."
The outgoing Malaysian High Commissioner also took the opportunity to thank the Government of His Majesty for the support and cooperation to the high commission and all Malaysians living in the country.
"We pray to Allah the Almighty for long life and continued health to His Majesty and members of the royal family, as well as wellness and prosperity to the people of Brunei Darussalam. May the excellent state of bilateral relations between Malaysia and Brunei continue to flourish in the years to come."
Set to leave Brunei on September 23, Dato' Ku Jaafar said, "My three years, one month and 20 days stay in this Kingdom of Unexpected Treasures will always remain as wonderful memories in my life. The friends that my wife and I have made here from all walks of life will remain friends forever.
"It has been fulfilling, satisfactory and enriching experience in executing my duties and responsibilities. Everyone had been so cooperative and accommodating. All good things would come to an end but friendship remains and never can end," he added.
Prior to the start of the reception, Dato' Ku Jaafar and spouse along with Pehin Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin and spouse cut a cake to mark the 53rd National Day of Malaysia.
