Malaysian minister checks on SEAMEO-VOCTECH
Malaysia's Minister of Education speaking with the press after meeting with his Bruneian counterpart.
Bandar Seri Begawan, 20 Jan 2009, Tue - Dato' Seri Hishammuddin bin Tun Hussein, Malaysia's Minister of Education in his capacity as President of The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) Council, started his two-day official working visit to Brunei Darussalam with a courtesy call on Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib, Minister of Education of Brunei Darussalam yesterday.
They discussed bilateral cooperation in education and training, especially in the areas of collaboration based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on February 14, 1992.
Dato' Seri Hishammuddin and his delegation were later briefed on the new Brunei Darussalam Education System for the 21st Century (SPN21) by Awang Haji Mohd Daud bin Hj Mahmud, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) of Education, Brunei Darussalam.
Dato' Seri Hishammuddin is on a working visit to all SEAMEO member countries, which include Brunei Darussalam, as part of his duties as President of SEAMEO Council.
The main purpose of his visit to Brunei Darussalam is to take a closer look at SEAMEO Regional Centre for Vocational and Technical Education and Training (SEAMEO-VOCTECH) in Gadong and to gain information on the centre's mandate on strengthening and improving the quality of vocational and technical education and training through human resource development in Southeast Asian countries.
Accompanying Dato' Seri Hishammuddin during the courtesy call were Dato' Ku Jaafar bin Ku Shaari, the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam, and Awang Mohd Zulkifli Mohammed, Undersecretary of the Policy and International Relations Division, Ministry of Education, Malaysia.
