Malaysian minister visits Seameo Voctech

ID Lab officiated yesterday by Dato' Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein
Bandar Seri Begawan, 21 Jan 2009, Wed - President of the SEAMEO Council and Malaysia's Minister of Education Dato' Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein yesterday made a visit to SEAMEO VOCTECH, where he officiated the Instructional Design Laboratory (ID Lab) that will cater to the needs of Brunei's teaching community.
The ID Lab is a key milestone in the e-Learning project, which in turn is one of the e-Education programme's five pillars, as set by Brunei's Ministry of Education.
The project was formally signed on January 26 last year with several key milestones already achieved. The e-Learning project aims to change the learning and teaching deliveries in relation to 'A' Levels, DTE, ITB and UBD.
The ID Lab has in fact been designed to support and sustain the e-Learning initiative. The lab boasts the latest technologies, in terms of both hardware and software.
The lab is equipped with high-end desktops and laptops with the latest software for multimedia developments, state-of-the-art machines for multimedia recording and editing, as well as video and audio recording and editing equipments, including one set with a mobile rack.
The ID Lab will be equipped with a soundproof audio recording room in the future. Additionally, the lab would also be staffed with experts from within Brunei's education community, who will assist in the creation of e-Learning materials.
The lab is strategically located at SEAMEO VOCTECH. Given its central 24/7 operating hours, it is expected that the teaching community would be able to utilise the lab's services to the maximum possible extent and be a part of the e-Learning revolution in Brunei.
During the visit, Dr Paryono, SEAMEO VOCTECH's Deputy Director for Professional Affairs, delivered his welcoming remarks, followed by a multimedia presentation on SEAMEO VOCTECH.
In his speech, Dr Paryono shared a brief summary on major initiatives taken by the centre. He also said that starting July 1, 2009, the centre is entering its Fourth Five-Year Development Plan.
The plan was discussed and endorsed by the Governing Board members during the 19th Governing Board Meeting in October last year. It is also currently being presented and reviewed at the High Official Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand.
When the Malaysian minister arrived at SEAMEO VOCTECH, he was greeted by Hj Susaila Hj Abd Karim, Acting Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Education's Core Education, and Dk Mastoli Pg Seri Indera Pg Hj Ismail, the Acting Permanent Secretary for Corporate Affairs at the ministry.
Also present during his arrival were SEAMEO VOCTECH's Chairman Hj Abd Rahim Derus, the Acting Director of Information and Communication Technology at the Ministry of Education, as well as Dr Paryono, the Deputy Director for Professional Affairs at SEAMEO VOCTECH.
