Malaysians pray for MH17 victims

MUSLIM Malaysians in the nation yesterday came together to pray for the victims of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17.
Over 100 fellow citizens participated in the mass Hajat prayer, as well as the Tarawih, Tahlil and Doa Selamat which were held at the prayer hall of the Malaysian High Commission.
Prior to the religious activities, attendees broke their fast together with the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei, Datuk Awang Sahak Awang Salleh, who shared with The Brunei Times that this was the time to show solidarity and pray for the victims of the crash as well as strength in overcoming the tragedy.
The event was also held to bolster ties among countrymen.
“There are several of them who have never joined the annual event (break of fast and religious activities in Ramadhan). It is time for everyone to meet and get to know each other albeit of their ages and where they are from,” said the Malaysian High Commissioner.
Also present at the event was the Deputy High Commissioner cum Minister Counsellor Haznah Md Hashim who expressed her sadness over the tragedy.
“I used to be stationed [sic – temporarily] in the Netherlands and since I’ve always boarded the MH17 to go [sic – from] there, I grew close with the staff,” she added, “It is terrible feeling when I received the sad news.”
