On 21 and 22 January 2026, the High Commission of Malaysia, in collaboration with PERWAKILAN Bandar Seri Begawan, organised the inaugural Pesona Batik Malaysia at the High Commission’s office.

The programme aimed to celebrate and promote Malaysian batik as one of the country’s most treasured national heritages, while reflecting the nation’s rich history, cultural identity, and artistic excellence.

The two-day event welcomed a distinguished gathering of guests, including members of the royal family; members of the association of wives of cabinet ministers, deputy ministers, permanent secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries and affiliated members; diplomatic corps; corporate and academic leaders; local students; as well as members of the public.

Pesona Batik Malaysia offered guests a unique opportunity to experience batik first-hand through live batik-making demonstrations, hands-on batik painting sessions, and direct engagement with batik vendors from Malaysia. Among the participated vendors were Gee Batik Collection; Batik Pelangi; Fadhizan Alzahra; Batik Pak Rashid; Mily Maryam; Azira De Gallery; Sabah Pearls; and Karyaneka.

The High Commissioner of Malaysia HE Datuk Mohd Aini Atan officiated the opening ceremony of the event on 21 January. In his welcoming speech, the High Commissioner of Malaysia underscored that Pesona Batik Malaysia reflects the High Commission’s proactive cultural diplomacy efforts, positioning batik as a vibrant cultural ambassador to foster unity, strengthen national identity, and bridge heritage with modern international engagement.
