PWM CNY celebration to reward top M'sian students

THE organising committee of Persatuan Warganegara Malaysia (PWM) 2014 Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration yesterday met with the association’s patron, Datuk Hj Awg Sahak, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam to discuss the proceedings of the celebration that will award some 300 Malaysian students for achieving excellent results in the last academic year.
Present at the meeting held at the Malaysian High Commission were Tey Kim Swee, the chairman of the organising committee and PWM President, James Lee as well as other committee members.
Datuk Hj Awg Sahak expressed his support to the event and is expected to attend the celebration to mark Chinese New Year with the Malaysian Chinese community in Brunei.
Due to the overwhelming response, most of the limited tables for the celebration have been snapped up hence, to avoid disappointment, James advised those interested to go to Trader’s Inn to purchase the seats or tables.
The celebration is to be held on February 15 at the banquet hall of Manggis Mall.
Held annually since 10 years ago, some 3,000 to 4,000 outstanding students were given awards with the aim to motivate the students to work hard for academic achievements. The recipients will receive certificates as well as Chinese New Year red packet ‘angpao’.
The association also urged parents to apply for the 2013 Academic Excellence Award for their respective children and all applications should meet the requirements. All applicants must be a Malaysian citizens and students must have achieved exemplary results in 2013. Application forms are available at Trader’s Inn Business Centre and the closing date for submission is January 25.
