On 10 November 2025, High Commissioner of Malaysia HE Datuk Mohd Aini Atan attended the Reception in Celebration of Timor-Leste’s Accession to ASEAN, held at the International Convention Centre in Bandar Seri Begawan.
During the reception, HE Datuk Mohd Aini delivered a speech on behalf of Malaysia, in which His Excellency highlighted Malaysia’s notable achievements throughout its Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025, with Timor-Leste’s admission to the regional bloc stood out as one of the most memorable milestones.
With respect to Timor-Leste’s accession, HE Datuk Mohd Aini underscored that following a 14-year journey, the country’s admission completes the ASEAN family, and further reaffirmed the commitment of Malaysia to facilitate Timor-Leste’s smooth and meaningful integration into the ASEAN Community
In commemorating the occasion, the High Commission of Malaysia also led a special choir team comprising of representatives from ASEAN diplomatic missions in Brunei, and staged a special performance of ‘Our Land, Our Home’, the official theme song of Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025. The choir team was initiated and supervised by the Chair of PERWAKILAN Bandar Seri Begawan, Datin Zaeidah Mohamed Esa.
