The Seventh Technical Meeting on Frequent Traveller Card (FTC) Project meeting between Brunei and Malaysia agreed to the extension of the FTC facility to two other border control posts at Tedungan (Sarawak) and Kuala Lurah (Brunei) and Pandaruan (Sarawak) and Puni (Brunei).
The meeting which was held on 16 May 2009, was to give both countries the opportunity to share common interests and exchange views on the implementation of the FTC project. The Malaysian delegation was headed by Mr. Abdul Rahim Othman, Director General of Immigration accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Registration Department.
The implementation of the FTC would facilitate and automate immigration clearance for Malaysia and Brunei citizens who frequently cross the Malaysian-Brunei border at the Sg Tujoh control post of Miri and Kuala Belait and would eventually be expanded to other control posts.
The meeting also discussed the possibility of using both countries' international passport as a more practical alternative to FTC. It is also hoped that the success of the FTC project would pave way for other ventures between the two countries to boost bi-lateral relations.
