Travel Fair to lure Bruneians to Sarawak

The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) will be holding a product update and Sarawak Travel Fair in Brunei from March 6 to 9, to attract more visitors from the Sultanate to visit the state.

The four-day event will begin with the product update for agents in Brunei on March 6 at The Rizqun International Hotel, according to STB officer Letitia Samuel in Miri.

She said that apart from updating travel agents in Brunei on the latest attractions in Sarawak, the product update will also be used to create greater rapport with tourism industry players in the Sultanate.

The Sarawak Travel Fair will be held from March 7 to 9 at The Mall in Gadong and it will be participated by four travel agencies, six hoteliers and one golf club operator.

The travel fair is jointly organised by STB and Tourism Malaysia in Brunei and the Malaysian High Commission in Brunei. Representatives from various embassies, Royal Brunei Airlines (RBA), Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and travel agents will be among the guests at the official opening of the travel fair.

At the travel fair, STB will promote the May 9 and 10 Miri International Jazz Festival and Citrarasa Malaysia (June 20-22).

Anticipating good response from local residents, STB Marketing Manager Mary Wan Mering has expressed confidence that the travel fair could attract more visitors from Brunei to come to Sarawak for holiday as well as for shopping.

Apart from driving into Sarawak, Mary also encourages them to take the RBA flights to Kuching. RBA had resumed its direct flight from Bandar Seri Begawan to Kuching since December last year.
