Malawakil welcomed Speaker of House of Representatives YB Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr) Johari Abdul and Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives YB Dato’ Ramli Mohd Noor who were in Brunei Darussalam from 9 to 13 June 2024 to attend the Tripartite Forum on Building a Vibrant Digital Economy in ASEAN: Strategies for Cyber Resilience and Shared Prosperity, and 15th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Caucus Meeting respectively.
During the Forum, YB Tan Sri Speaker delivered a keynote address themed Building a Vibrant Digital and Cyber Resilient ASEAN, touching on the impacts of ASEAN’s digital transformation and the role of parliamentarians in ensuring a sustainable and safe future of the ASEAN digital landscape.
During the visit, YB Tan Sri Speaker and delegation were hosted a dinner by Speaker of the Legislative Council of Brunei, YB Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman at the latter’s residence on 9 June. YB Tan Sri Speaker also met with the Secretary General of AIPA, H.E. Ar. Siti Rozaimeriyanty Dato Haji Abdul Rahman to discuss the preliminary preparations of the Parliament of Malaysia in hosting AIPA in 2025.
The visit provides the impetus for Malaysia to further strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation not only with Brunei but also with the rest of ASEAN Member States.
