YAB Prime Minister's working visit to Brunei
Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato Seri Mohd Najib bin Hj Tun Abdul Razak and Datin Sri Rosmah Mansor made an introductory visit to Brunei from 29 -30 April 2009. The arrival of the new Prime Minister of Malaysia was greeted with a static display mounted by the Royal Brunei Armed Forces at the Brunei International Airport.
The Prime Minister was greeted by the Minister of Home Affairs in his capacity as the Minister in Attendance, Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mohd Yusof.
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam granted an audience with the Malaysian delegation followed by a four-eyed meeting at Istana Nurul Iman to discuss issues of mutual interest to further enhance and strengthen friendship and bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Also present during the audience were His Royal Highness Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah, HRH Princess Hjh Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah, HRH Princess Hjh Masna and YAM Pg Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pg Anak Hj Abdul Aziz.
The Malaysian delegation comprised of Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu and Deputy Foreign Minister A Kohilan Pillay, as well as several senior government officials
His Majesty the Sultan later hosted a dinner for the Malaysian premier and wife.
Before ending the visit, YAB Prime Minister and delegation attended a get-together with the Malaysian community held at the Empire Hotel & Country Club in Jerudong. The prime minister noted that his visit to Brunei was meaningful and that His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has extended an invitation to him to visit the Sultanate again this August for the Brunei-Malaysia meeting.
Both countries will continue to increase its two-way ties in specific fields, he said, adding that the relationship between the two countries is at a "very good" level. He added that it is important for neighbouring countries to have good relationship with its neighbours, especially in the Asean region.
He added that more Malaysian ministers would visit Brunei to not only nurture bilateral relations but also follow-up on what had been discussed at the meeting. "We want the goodwill to cascade down to the daily lives of the peoples of both countries," he added.
