Birth/Marriage Registration

REGISTRATION OF MARRIAGE

 

Application to be made in person at:

Documents to be submitted:

1.      1 original Registration Form, JPN.KC O6 (available at the High Commission)

2.      2 recent colored photographs of applicants with white background, size 3.5 cm x 5.0 cm

3.      Original Canadian Marriage Certificate with 2 photocopies

4.      Original Passport of applicants with 2 photocopies of information page

5.      Original Malaysian Identity Card of applicants with 2 photocopies (front and back)

6.      Original Birth Certificate of applicants with 2 photocopies (front and back)

7.      Original valid Canadian Permanent Residence (PR) Card with 2 photocopies. If you DO NOT possess a valid Canadian PR Card, you are required to produce a Search Letter from the Canadian Immigration Citizenship (CIC) Department confirming that you have not acquired Canadian Citizenship (not applicable to those below 18 years of age) OR

8.     Those on Student Visa, please produce a letter from your university, college or school, confirming that you are a bona fide student together with your valid original study visa issued by the Canadian Immigration and Citizenship (CIC) Department with 2 photocopies OR

9.    Those on work visa, please produce your original valid work visa issued by the Canadian Immigration and Citizenship (CIC) Department with 2 photocopies

10.    Fee: CAD10 cash only

11.    2 separate sets of original authenticated documents by the Provincial government (Refer to Notes 4 and 5)

NOTE:

  1. Processing takes five (5) business days.
  2. The marriage must be registered with the High Commission of Malaysia within 6 months from the date of marriage. Any registration made after 6 months of marriage is considered a late registration. The fee for late registration is RM100.00 for the first 12 months and RM50.00 for every subsequent year OR
  3. The marriage can also be registered in person at any National Registration Department (Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara) in Malaysia within six (6) months of arrival date in Malaysia and Marriage Certificate must be endorsed by the High Commission of Malaysia.
  4. For Muslim marriages solemnized in Canada, registration must be done with the Islamic Religious Department (Jabatan Agama Islam) at the applicant’s local area of residence in Malaysia.
    The original Certificate of Conversion and the original Marriage Certificate must be authenticated by the Provincial authority in Canada.
  5. For non-Muslim marriages solemnized in Canada, the original Marriage Certificate must be authenticated by the Provincial authority in Canada.
  6. All foreign documents issued outside of Canada must be certified and attested by a government representative of the country in Canada (eg. Embassy/High Commission/Consulate). If these documents are not in English, they must be translated and attested by the government representative.
  7. If the applicant is a divorcee or a widow, please submit an Absolute Decree Nisi or a death certificate of spouse respectively.

 

 

 

REGISTRATION OF BIRTH

 

A child born in Canada can be registered as a Malaysian citizen at the High Commission with the following conditions: 

             

1. The father of the child is a Malaysian citizen;

2. BOTH parents are Malaysian and

3. Registration is made within one (1) year from the date of birth. (Refer to Note 4, if      

    applicable)

Documents to be submitted:

1.      1 original Registration Form D, JPN.WN02 (available at the High Commission)

2.      2 recent colored photographs of the child, with white background, size 3.5 cm x 5.0 cm

3.      Original Provincial (Canadian) Birth certificate of child with 2 photocopies (Refer to Note 2)

4.      Original Passport of parents with 2 photocopies of information page (Refer to Note 2)

5.      Original Malaysian Identity card of parents with 2 photocopies (front and back)

6.      Original Malaysian Marriage certificate of parents with 2 photocopies

7.      Original Birth certificates of parents with 2 photocopies (front and back) (Refer to Notes 2

and 3, if applicable)

8.      1 separate set of original authenticated documents by the Provincial government or relevant government authority (Refer to Notes 2 and 3) AND two (2) sets of photocopies

9.       Original valid Canadian Permanent Residence (PR) Card with 2 photocopies OR

10.     Those on a student visa, please produce a letter from your university, college or school, confirming that you are a bona fide student together with your valid original study visa issued by the Canadian Immigration and Citizenship (CIC) Department with 2 photocopies OR

11.     Those on a work visa, please produce your valid original work visa issued by the Canadian Immigration and Citizenship (CIC) Department with 2 photocopies

12.     FEE: CAD$12.00 cash (exact change only) / money order or bank draft (payable  to the High Commission of Malaysia) (NO personal cheques accepted)

 

NOTE:

  1. Processing of the birth certificate takes five (5) business days for applicants who are registered within the one-year condition. (Refer to Note 4 for late registration)

 

  1. For births in Canada, the original Canadian Birth Certificate or any Canadian documents must be authenticated by the authority in Canada, such as Global Affairs Canada (GAC) or a designated department mandated by Global Affairs Canada (GAC). Please refer to the GAC website for information on authentication of documents.   1. Any foreign documents (i.e. non-Canadian) must be certified and attested by a government representative (where the document originates) in Canada (e.g. Embassy/High Commission/Consulate).

 

  1. If these documents are not in English, they must be translated and attested by a government representative of the country of origin. 

 

  1. Late registration of birth will be referred to the National Registration Department/Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN), Malaysia for approval. The result of the application (approved or otherwise) will be notified to the applicant in due time. Note: JPN will be responsible for the issuance of the birth certificate. Additional payment will be requested by JPN.
