The High Commissioner of Malaysia, His Excellency Selwyn Das hosted a reception on the occasion of Malaysia’s 53rd National Day Celebration at Ashbury College on 26 October 2010. Some 250 people from the diplomatic community; members of the Canadian government and private sector; members of parliament; as well as several Malaysians attended the event. The event also doubled as a farewell for High Commissioner Selwyn Das. The food was prepared by Toronto-based Restoran Malaysia
The reception started out with the singing of the Malaysian National Anthem followed by the singing of the Canadian National Anthem. H.E. Selwyn Das also addressed the crowd explaining the highlights of Malaysia-Canada relations this year which included the formation of the Malaysia-Canada Parliamentary Friendship Group, the success of the Malaysia Golf Day and culminating with the special task visit of SPB YDP Agong to Canada in September. High Commissioner in his speech also highlighted the strategies in Malaysia’s new budget for 2011, the increase in Canadian tourists to Malaysia as well as encouraging the Canadian government to become more engaged with ASEAN and Malaysia.
