The High Commissioner of Malaysia to Canada, Her Excellency Dato’ Hayati Ismail hosted a breaking of fast with Malaysian students at her official residence Rumah Malaysia on 5 August 2011.
The event began with the taking of a group photograph on the residence grounds followed by a short speech by Dato’ Hayati Ismail. In her speech, Dato’ Hayati reminded the students that their studies were paramount during their time in Canada and that Malaysia is still in need of trained professionals and experts for the countries’ development. Deputy High Commissioner Mr. Umardin Mutalib also gave a few words.
Megat Mohd Shukri Shuib, a third-year engineering student at Carleton University then recited verses from the Quran before the break of fast.
After the break of fast meal and Maghrib prayers, Ottawa University PhD candidate Muhammad Izzuddin Syakir led the Isya’ and Terawaih prayers. The evening concluded with a moreh. The event was an opportunity for the Malaysian students and the staff at the High Commission of Malaysia in Ottawa to interact and foster closer relations. The event is part of the High Commission’s outreach programmes.
