The High Commission of Malaysia together with the six other ASEAN resident missions in Ottawa took part in the Ottawa Race Weekend 2012 under the ASEAN banner. High Commissioner of Malaysia to Canada, Her Excellency Dato’ Hayati Ismail; and Deputy High Commissioner Umardin Mutalib; First Secretary Suraya Pauzi; and Second Secretary Rozalah Hashim all took part in the 5km race on 26 May 2012.
The High Commission also sponsored some 10 Malaysian students studying in Ottawa universities to participate in the race. The purpose of the group’s participation was to raise ASEAN’s profile in Canada’s capital city. The race attracted a record 42,000 participants.
