H.E Dato' Hayati Ismail, the High Commissioner of Malaysia hosted an iftar event on 12 July 2013 at Rumah Malaysia. It was warmly attended by close to 40 Malaysians. Majority of the attendees were students from Carleton University and University of Ottawa. Amongst the guests included officials attending short term courses in Canada. The iftar was followed by Maghrib, Isyak and Terawih prayers led by saudara Muhammad Izzuddin Syakir bin Ishak, a final year PhD student from Kedah.
The iftar is one of the various outreach activities undertaken by the High Commission aiming at building strong networking and bonding amongst Malaysians in Canada.
