The High Commission of Malaysia in Canada proudly hosted a reception in Ottawa to commemorate Malaysia’s 68th National Day. The event welcomed over 250 guests, including Canadian politicians and government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, Malaysian diaspora from Ottawa, Toronto, and Montreal, as well as Friends of Malaysia.
The evening began with the national anthems of Malaysia, Negaraku, and Canada, followed by a keynote address by the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Canada, Her Excellency Dato’ Dr Shazelina Zainul Abidin. In her remarks, she reflected on Malaysia’s recent achievements, its leadership role in ASEAN as the Chair of ASEAN 2025, and the continued strengthening of ties with partners, including Canada.
The reception showcased a vibrant display of Malaysian culture, featuring music, videos, and a selection of traditional cuisine. Guests enjoyed favourites like sate with kuah kacang, mi kari, mihun goreng, ayam masak berempah, and desserts such as ais batu campur (ABC), a colourful variety of kuih-muih and the ever-popular teh tarik.
The venue was decorated with the flags of all the Malaysian states - a nod to the federalist structure of Malaysia itself.
A heartfelt thank you to the dedicated team at the High Commission for organising a warm and meaningful evening that beautifully showcased Malaysia’s rich culture and diversity.
