Malaysians at Rumah Malaysia for the Flag Raising Ceremony and Hari Raya Gathering.
MW Ottawa held a flag raising ceremony on the occasion of Malaysia?s Independence Day together with a Hari Raya gathering for the Malaysian community in Ottawa on 27 September 2009. The event was held at the residence of the High Commissoner of Malaysia to Canada, Rumah Malaysia.
The event which began at 12noon was attended by some 200 Malaysians as well as Friends of Malaysia. At the special invitation of H.E. Selwyn Das - the Heads of Mission from Brunei, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh were also present at this event.
Captain Mohamed Huzaifah bin Mohamed Lasin of the Malaysian Armed Forces who is attending the Language Teacher Trainer Course at the Canadian Forces Language School in Ottawa, was the flag raiser for the said event. Besides the singing of Negaraku accompanied by the raising of the Malaysian flag, Keranamu Malaysia was also sung as part of the programme.
H.E. Selwyn Das also gave brief remarks to the Malaysians present before a short prize giving ceremony was held for the members of the Malaysian team who participated in the Ottawa Dragon Boat Race held in July. Malaysia?s team ? ?Malaysia Truly Asia,? who?s participation was sponsored by Tourism Malaysia in Vancouver - placed first in the Embassies and Foreign Missions Category. The Counsellor and Head of Chancery at the High Commission of Malaysia, Mr. Mohamed Hatimi Abas who was captain of the team received the trophy from H.E. Selwyn Das.
Once the formal part was completed, the guests were treated to Malaysian food prepared by the High Commission of Malaysia. The event ended at 3pm.
