The Embassy of Malaysia in Berne hosted a Hari Raya Open House on Saturday, 18 September 2010 at the Chancery. About 300 Malaysians residing, working and studying in Switzerland and also Swiss guests attended the event. Dato’ Ho May Yong and her staff welcomed the guests and were honoured by the presence of the Permanent Representatives of Malaysia to the United Nations in Geneva and to the WTO, and the Honorary Consuls of Malaysia in Zurich and Basel.
The event was to have been held at Rumah Malaysia but the venue had to be changed due to inclement weather. This, however, did not dampen the festive mood as the guests enjoyed the ‘family gathering’ – making new friends and renewing old ties while they partook of the sumptuous spread of Hari Raya traditional favourites of nasi minyak, rendang daging, ayam masak merah, dalca sayur,acar rampai, nasi impit with masak lodeh and kuah kacang, fried noodles with sambal sotong, curry puffs, keropok and a variety of desserts and Hari Raya cookies.
It was a joyous and heart warming get-together with fellow Malaysians and a good opportunity to introduce Malaysian culture to our Swiss guests.
