Working Visit of YB Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living to Geneva, 11-12 September 2024
YB Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living undertook a working visit to Geneva on 11-12 September 2024. This working visit is part of his working visit to Europe, including Türkiye and the UK.
During the visit, he witnessed the signing ceremony of the LoU on WIPO Alert Data Sharing Platform between Malaysia Intellectual Property Organisation (MyIPO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The LoU was signed by Mr. Kamal Kormin, Director General of MyIPO and Mr. Edward Kwakwa, Assistant Director General, Global Challenges and Partnership Sector (GCPS), WIPO. The signing of the LoU demonstrated Malaysia’s efforts to combat piracy, strengthening our capacity to protect intellectual property, safeguard local creative industries, and foster a more secure digital economy.
He also took the opportunity to meet Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary General of United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to exchange views on strengthening cooperation in several key areas. Among others, they discussed the technical assistance and advisory support for reviewing Malaysia’s e-commerce legislative framework, with a focus on integrating international best practices. Both parties also explored ways to empower enforcement mechanisms for Malaysia’s e-commerce platforms, enhancing consumer protection and supporting industry growth.
