A Letter from Valparaiso
It is a difficult task to express in a few words how meaningful was my visit to Malaysia, to the beautiful city of Kuala Lumpur.
First of all, I would like to thank the Embassy of Malaysia for giving me the opportunity of participating in the Multilateral Diplomacy Course (offered between May 22nd and June 11th, 2007).
During my trip, besides visiting very interesting and quite wonderful places, like Kuala Lumpur and its surroundings, I had the chance to get a glimpse of the people from Malaysia, their culture and religion.
I returned to Chile with numerous memories that won't be easily forgotten. Malaysia is a unique country, where you perceive a peaceful coexistence between Malayan, Chinese and Indian people, showing harmony and respect for each other?s beliefs and traditions.
I still emotionally recall the incredible welcoming we had at the Sungei Kelah Village. They were expecting us with a delicious lunch, with typical Malaysian food and dances performed together with music played by children from the villa.
My foster mother and her family showed me an enormous hospitality, having me in their home, teaching me about their cuisine and way of life.
No doubt this was a fulfilling experience in several senses. Not only for having the chance to get to know a country with such a rich culture, but also for the knowledge acquired through classes, which were of an excellent level and content.
I must mention my dear friends and classmates, citizens from twenty different countries, each one of them with diverse backgrounds and cultures. They made my time in Malaysia even more interesting, as it turned out to be a real multicultural experience.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all who have been involved in the compiling of the course of Multilateral Diplomacy.
