H.E. Ambassador Alberto Van Klaveren, Deputy Foreign Minister of Chile officiated the opening of the International Course on Diplomacy for Chilean and foreign diplomats at the Andres Bello Diplomatic Academy on 13 June 2007. The Andres Bello Academy was established on 3 June 1954.
Mrs. Anil Fahriza Adenan, Second Secretary is one of the international participants including from Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, China, Indonesia, Paraguay, Mozambique, New Zealand, Republic of Czech, Russia, Saint Kitts and Nevis and Vietnam.
Mrs. Anil who is presently attached to the Embassy in Santiago will attend the six month course from 5 June to 14 December 2007. She hopes to master the Spanish language in addition to be able to have an exchange of views and experience with both Chilean and international students. Considering that she does not speak Spanish, the first few days has been rather trying as the course is conducted in Spanish. However, she is determined to learn more about international relations and diplomacy from the Latin American perspective.
Other Malaysian diplomats who have attended the course included Mr. Zakri Jaafar, Cik Zanariah Zainal Abidin, En. Ahmad Fadil Shamsudin, Ms. Gloria Corina Tiwet and Mr. Akmal Che Mustapha.
H.E. Ambassador Abdullah Faiz Zain attended the opening ceremony. Ambassador was pleased that Ms Anil has been accepted into the course as it would enable her to network with young diplomats from other countries and more importantly also increase the number of spanish speaking Malaysian diplomats.
