Ambassador Ganeson Sivagurunathan presented his Credentials to H.E. Lenin Moreno, the Vice-President of the Republic of Ecuador at the Carondelet Presidential Palace on Thursday, 22 June 2012. H.E. Mr. Marco Albuja, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Integration, was also present at the ceremony. Ambassador Ganeson Sivagurunathan was accompanied by his wife and son, the Honorary Consul of Malaysia in Quito and his wife, as well as the Counselor of the Embassy of Malaysia in Chile.
The Vice President expressed the hope that there would be more Malaysian presence in Ecuador. He also raised the possibility of having someone from Malaysia to present and have discussions on interfaith dialogue in Ecuador. Ambassador Ganeson Sivagurunathan took the opportunity to brief and update the Vice-President on the Global Movement of Moderates (GMM), an initiative mooted by YAB Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Razak at the UNGA in 2010, as well as the summit held in Kuala Lumpur in January 2012. The Vice-President expressed his strong interest to learn more about the initiative.
Ambassador Ganeson Sivagurunathan, who is based in Santiago, Republic of Chile is concurrently accredited to the Republic of Ecuador. He replaced Y.Bhg. Datin Paduka Rashidah Ramli, who was appointed as the Roving Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of Ecuador, based in Malaysia.
While in Quito, Ambassador Ganeson Sivagurunathan also called on the Vice-Minister of Tourism, and the Dean of the Diplomatic Corp, as well as held meetings with the Quito Chamber of Commerce, the Mayor of Rumiñahui and the Provincial Prefect of the Province of Pichincha.
