American Ibero Film Festival To Introduce Latin Culture
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- The American Ibero Film Festival, participated by nine Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries, provides the best platform to introduce the Latin culture in Malaysia.
Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) deputy president Liu Cheng Choong said the film festival, which began today until Oct 15, would screen 14 films which had similarities in terms of their national language and culture.
"The main theme of these films focused on the strong emphasis placed on noble values in the respective countries' communities," he told reporters after the launching of the film festival, here Sunday.
The nine countries taking part in the film festival are Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Ecuador, Peru, Spain, Uruguay and Venezuela, which are mostly in South or Latin America which adopted a common national language either Spanish or Portuguese.
"I believe the films will enable all Malaysians to better understand the cultural background of these countries," he said.
Meanwhile, Cuban Ambassador to Malaysia, Pedro Monzon Barata said the annual festival which was entering its fifth year would enable Malaysian viewers to learn and better understand the values of the cultural heritage in the countries concerned as the films screened portrayed the daily life in these countries.
The screening of the 14 films which carried English subtitles would be held at Wisma Kebudayaan SGM, Jalan Bukit Bintang and members of the public who wished to seek more information on the screening schedule of the films could surf the SGM website at
