Damas (Ladies) Charity Bazaar
Perwakilan Santiago took part in the annual Damas Bazaar organized by the Diplomatic and Ladies Association of Santiago, Chile. The main purpose of the bazaar was to raise funds for selected orphanage and also charity organizations.
The Malaysian ladies prepared a variety of Malaysian food and snacks such as bihun, kuih goyang, bahulu, curry puff and also ice-cream Malaysia, were sold at competitive prices. Hand crafted batik, silk kaftans, scarfs, and an assortment of handicrafts were put also on display. Perwakilan Santiago also took the opportunity to promote Malaysia as a tourist destination especially with regard to the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 campaign.
The Malaysian booth was well patronised as most all the food was sold out before the end of the day.The handicrafts were also well received by the public.
For 2006, the Damas Charity Bazaar was held on 2 December, at Parque de Arauco in Las Condes. More than 100 stalls and booths were opened to the public by the various Embassies in Santiago, selling from their native authentic food to their local handicrafts and also drinks. Ten percent of the total collections from each of the participating booths was collected by the Diplomatic and Ladies Association to be handed over to selected Orphanage and Charity Organization.
