English - Language Debate Competition Final

 

 

HE Ambassador Abdullah Faiz Zain including the Ambassador of Canada were invited by the Ministry of Education to sit on a panel of distinguished judges for the Final of the  English-Language Debate Competition held at La Cúpula Theater in Parque O'Higgins last Friday November 7, 2008.

Other members of the Panel included journalists, professors, teachers, educationists, writers etc

The Minister of Education MS Monica Jimenez de la Jara officiated the Ceremony.

The topic of the Debate: '' This House believes that the Internet is a positive influence on Society". The opposing Team won the Debate.

The English-language Debate Competition - in which high-school students from public and semi public schools all over the  country participated - is an initiative fostered by the English Opens Doors Programme under the Ministry of Education, aimed at showing results of the process of English-language oral skills acquisition and thus promoting higher personal and ethical development.

Only one point difference separated the winner of the tournament in English Debates 2008, Colegio Santa Emilia (Region Antofagasta), and Amanda Labarca del Liceu (Colorado), who was awarded second place.
