Courtesy Call on President of Chilean National Commerce
His Excellency Abdullah Faiz Zain, Ambassador of Malaysia to Chile, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Carlos E. Jorquiera M., President of Chilean National Commerce (CNC) at the CNC's headquarters Palacio Bruno on 13 March 2009.
H.E. Ambassador Abdullah Faiz Zain was accompanied by Ms. Anil Adenan, Head of Chancery of the Embassy and Mr. Niqman Rafaee Sahar, Trade Commissioner of MATRADE office in Santiago.
During the meeting, H.E. Abdullah Faiz and Mr. Carlos Jorquiera discussed on bilateral trade, other areas of potential co-operations and how to further strengthen relations between Malaysia and Chile in this regard.
In addition, H.E. Abdullah Faiz took the opportunity to extend an invitation to CNC to participate in the 6th World Chambers Congress which would be held from 3 to 5 June 2009 in Kuala Lumpur.
In his response, Mr. Carlos Jorquiera stated that CNC viewed the 6th World Chambers Congress as an important event and was interested to participate in the Congress. A proposal for a representative of CNC to participate at the said Congress has been submitted to a Committee of CNC for consideration and approval.
CNC was established on 18 August 1858 with 128 members. At the initial establishment, the Chambers was actively involved in areas linked to commercial activities such as the writing of customs regulations, the establishment of general commission tariffs and commercial practices and costumes and the study of the Commercial Code, besides solving commercial difficulties through commercial arbitration, among other activities.
CNC is currently composed by 24 Chambers of Commerce from Arica to Magallanes, 33 specialized Associations, 19 Binational Chambers of Commerce and 20 member companies, representing in this way over 300.000 companies in the country - making it the biggest chamber in Chile.
