Malaysia led the initiative to launch a Statement of Support to the United Nations Secretary-General’s appeal for a Global Ceasefire amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Malaysia collaborated with cross-regional partners, namely Bangladesh, Ecuador, Egypt, Jamaica, Japan, Oman, Senegal, Slovenia, and Sweden, in the past few weeks to secure member states’ support to the Statement. This is the first Statement that was opened to all UN Member States and Observers on the subject, recognizing that the support for a global ceasefire should be a global effort.
