M'sian, Chilean Entrepreneurs Urged To Seize New Opportunities

VALPARAISO, June 17 (Bernama) -- Entrepreneurs in Malaysia and Chile should seize new opportunities available in biotechnology, information and communications technology (ICT), tourism, medicine and education to boost bilateral trade, Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said.
"Malaysia can be a gateway for products from Latin America to the Asean and China markets and vice-versa Chile a distribution hub for goods from Malaysia," he told Malaysian journalists after speaking at a seminar entitled "Melaka a Paradise for Tourists and Investors" held here in conjunction with a Melaka government delegation's visit to Chile.
The delegation, which left Melaka on June 13 is on a two-week working visit to Latin America. Before coming to Chile, it visited Argentina and will head for Cuba and Venezuala next.
Also present was Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob.
The seminar was attended by some 50 Chilean businessmen involved in various fields including biotechnology, ICT, tourism and education.
Mohd Ali said many Chilean businessmen had indicated their interest to increase imports of furniture and other Malaysian goods apart from wanting to visit Malaysia this year in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2007.
He said Malaysia and Melaka offered attractive incentives and had modern infrastructure facilities, which made them a paradise for investors.
He added that the Chile trip had been a huge success and that the twin-city accord signed between Melaka and Valpairoso in 1991 would be pursued more vigorously to enhance their relationship.
