Malaysian Embassy's Soup Kitchen Programme In Chile
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Embassy in Santiago, Chile embarked on a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)-Soup Kitchen programme for the needy at Independencia, outer Santiago last Saturday.
According to a statement here today, the programme was attended by more than 400 needy people, comprising old folks and the poor.
It said Independencia Mayor, Don Gozala Duran and Member of Parliament for District 19-Independencia and Recoleta, Karol Cariola also attended the event which was held under their constituency.
The embassy collaborated with the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) Alumni and the Chilean-Malaysian Business Council in preparing and distributing Malaysian food and drinks, assisted by the Perwakilan Ladies of Santiago.
The statement said among food and drinks prepared for the needy were fried mee hoon, fried chicken, chicken soup and 'teh tarik'.
Malaysian Ambassador to Chile, Dr Mohamad Rameez Yahaya also took the opportunity to showcase and give away the Malaysian fruit, 'rambutan' to the needy to promote the fruit to Chileans.
Similar events will be held elsewhere in Santiago by the embassy, once in three months.
