- On 13 May 2020, Chilean authorities decreed a mandatory quarantine throughout Santiago on Wednesday after a 60% increase in new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours in the country, totaling 34,381 infected since March. Total quarantine for Gran Santiago (includes all comunas in the Santiago Province, as well as the comunas of Puente Alto, San Bernardo, Padre Hurtado, Buin, Lampa, and Colina) will take effect Friday, May 15 at 10:00 p.m. Outside Santiago, the government of Chile has implemented quarantines in Arica, Iquique and Alto Hospicio (it will take effect Friday, May 15 at 10:00 pm) Mejillones, Antofagasta, Angol, Victoria ( the last two end Friday, May 15 at 10:00 pm).
